Trach Capped!

Hi Everyone!

Here's a quick update before all the excitement of the day begins. Eric had a good day yesterday. We saw the Occupational Therapist for the first time. He was really nice and asked Eric a lot of questions to understand what he really wants to accomplish. Then later on in the day, they capped his trach tube! This means that he is completely breathing through his mouth and nose. They'll keep the cap on for several days, then take the trach out completely! This will be wonderful!!! Eric is also working on strengthening his throat muscles in order to swallow. He says that he keeps dreaming of lemonade, grape juice, and baked potatoes. :) He just really really really wants to drink some juice.

Love,
Melissa

  1. Congrats Eric!!! However, you have officially made my stomach grumble at 7:30 in the morning talking about all of that deliciousness!

I think you should invite everyone over to your place for a MASSIVE feast when you are able to officially eat! :)

  2. Wow! Just wow! Can you believe you are here already?!? I'm sure the staff won't mind pinching you so you can be sure. :)

Keep up the great work Eric! I'm sure in a few months (perhaps weeks) this is all going to seem like one big blur of time for both of you! Oh, and welcome back to Lafayette Eric!! Boiler UP! :)

  3. Glad to know that you guys are back in town and everything is going well! As soon as you can, Mike and I will take you out for a giant baked potato. I'll come out and visit as soon as I get rid on this stupid cold.

    We love you guys!

  4. GRAPEJUICE?! LEMONADE?!?!

When did Glenfiddich and Miller Brewing start making GRAPEJUICE and LEMONADE?

Eric, you may be conscious, but you need to wake up my friend! This calls for a real drink!
